Streptavidin is a tetrameric protein of
bacterial origin with high affinity for biotin (dissociation constant, KD=10-14
M). The high affinity binding of streptavidin to biotin is commonly utilized
for signal amplification, and increased sensitivity in immunodetection
protocols such as Western Blot, ELISA and flow cytometry based bead assays
using a biotinylated antibody (View our biotin products) or other molecule as the primary probe.
